Future ft Lil Wayne – Drive Itself :Ringing in the new era with a Future collaboration, Wayne comes through with a goal in his first game back, matching Future’s autotune drenched aesthetic with a drip of his own.
While far from kindred spirits, “Drive Itself” draws a uniting link between the two men you may never have anticipated. Both have a taste for life’s finer luxuries. Case in point, the titular self-driving car, which is the center of many-a punchline.
“I’ma ball out, she pay for her own season tickets,” raps Wayne. “The car drive itself and pay for its own speeding tickets.” Such generous automobiles have never been conceived by Pixar. As for Fewtch, he seems well acquainted as a hip-hop soundtrack curator, joining the prestigious ranks of Eminem, 50 Cent, and Kendrick Lamar.
While “Drive Itself” largely values style over substance, the vibe aligned with the movie by which its based. Should you lament the shallow lyrical content, remember the base of origin. This is, after all, the Superfly soundtrack. Still, there are gems to be found throughout. “We pretend we ain’t some killers but them killers know,” raps Weezy. “We laughing at your funeral but you don’t get the joke.”
The punchline king lives on; long may he reign.
